Larry Newby Obituary

Larry Eugene Newby, age 68, of Louisville, KY formerly of Springfield, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville.

He was born on December 1, 1955 in Lebanon, Kentucky to Kenneth and Sarah Mattie Thompson Newby.

A native of Springfield he and his family were members of Johnson Chapel AME Zion Church where he was baptized. After moving to Louisville he became a member of the Spirit Of Peace Church.  He was a 1973 graduate of Washington County High School, served in the National Guard and was a retired truck driver.

Larry loved his entire family but had an unwavering unconditional love for his grand boys and had a nickname for each one. He loved his country western movies, attending ball games and shooting pool. Amongst family and friends Larry will be remembered for his witty personality and classic one liners, “LORDT!” “Know what you need to know, stand for something! “If you don’t have respect, you don’t have nothing”.

Preceding him in death was his daughter, Karissa Newby on February 27, 2009; his father, Kenneth Newby, Sr. on March 8, 2003 and a brother, David Allen Newby on October 13, 2005.

Survivors include a son, Derrick Newby (LaKena) of Louisville; five grandchildren, La’Que Newby (Chauntasia), De’Eric Newby, Donovan Bizzle, Dominique Fort and Donnie Newby; eleven great grandchildren; his mother, Sarah Mattie Thompson Newby of Springfield; four sisters, Patricia Oliver (Carthel) of Southfield, MI, Mary Alice Varner (Cyrus) of Novi, MI, Peggy Cooper (Benny) of San Diego, CA and Sarah Kime (Terry) Of Alpharetta, GA and two brothers, Kenneth Newby, Jr. (Rosa) of Cynthiana and Ronnie Newby (Lydia) of Southfield, MI.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20th at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Dr. R.Z. Miller, officiating.

Cremation will follow the funeral service.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Spencer Newby, Craig Oliver, Corey Oliver, Dion Newby, Anthony Newby and Tommy Varner.

Visitation will be from 11:00 Saturday morning until time of the service at 1:00 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home.
